Define the question before the score
AI visibility is not a single position on a universal results page. A business can appear in one recommendation and be absent from another because the prompt, provider, market or available evidence changed. Start by defining the buyer questions you want to observe.
Group prompts by customer intent: discovering a category, comparing options, checking a specific capability, or looking for a service in a location. Keep your cohort stable enough to make comparisons useful. Save the exact wording and language.
Record the conditions
For every measurement, retain the provider, model where known, observation time and prompt. Identify whether the answer came from an API or a consumer interface. Those are different observation surfaces and should not be silently combined.
In NeoPresence, configured providers produce separate attempts and evidence. A failed attempt is a coverage gap, not a negative brand mention. Check how many intended measurements succeeded before interpreting the result.
Read the answer and its sources
A brand string can be ambiguous. Check whether the answer refers to your business, especially if the name is short or shared by another company. Inspect cited URLs and the context of the recommendation. A citation to your domain is stronger identity evidence than a loose name match.
- A mention says the brand appeared.
- A citation identifies a linked source.
- A recommendation expresses an answer’s judgment in context.
- A visit or conversion records a separate user outcome.
Compare like with like
Keep the cohort, markets and providers comparable when reviewing change. Annotate major website updates and product changes. Repeat measurements rather than treating one answer as a permanent fact.
Google explains that its AI features can issue related searches across subtopics. This helps explain why a single broad query cannot represent every opportunity for discovery.
Use the measurement to identify questions worth investigating. Review the relevant public evidence, choose a controllable action, and observe the later result without promising that a task will force an AI answer to change.
