Overview

A custom domain makes your website look more professional, more trustworthy, and easier to remember. Instead of sharing a preview link, you can connect your own domain and publish your NeoWeb website under your brand.

With NeoWeb, connecting a domain is simple. You can do it in two common ways:

  • CNAME record: Recommended for most users
  • A record: Useful if you want to connect the root domain directly

This guide walks you through the full process.

Before You Start

Make sure you already have:

  • A website created in NeoWeb
  • Access to your domain provider or DNS manager
  • Your domain ready to connect

In NeoWeb, go to Website Settings -> Domain Management. There you will see your connected domains, your default NeoWeb preview domain, and the DNS connection instructions for the domain you want to add.

Option 1: Connect with a CNAME Record

A CNAME record points your custom domain to your NeoWeb preview domain. This is the easiest and most flexible option for most cases.

When to Use It

Use a CNAME record if you want to connect a subdomain such as:

  • site.yourdomain.com
  • shop.yourdomain.com

Steps

  1. Open Domain Management in NeoWeb. Go to your website settings and open the Domain Management tab.
  2. Enter your domain. In the add domain field, enter the domain or subdomain you want to connect, for example www.yourdomain.com.
  3. Copy the target value from NeoWeb. NeoWeb will show the destination you need to point to, such as yourwebsite.preview.neoweb.ai.
  4. Open your DNS provider. Log in to the platform where your domain is managed, such as Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Squarespace Domains.
  5. Add a new CNAME record. Use Type: CNAME, Host/Name: www, Target/Value: your NeoWeb preview domain, and TTL: Auto or your provider's default value.
  6. Save the record. Confirm the DNS changes in your provider dashboard.
  7. Return to NeoWeb and check the connection. Click Check. If DNS propagation has completed, the domain status will change to connected.

Option 2: Connect with an A Record

An A record points your root domain directly to an IP address. This is the best option when you want to use the naked domain instead of a subdomain.

When to Use It

Use an A record if you want to connect:

  • yourdomain.com

instead of:

Steps

  1. Open Domain Management in NeoWeb. Go to your website settings and open Domain Management.
  2. Add your root domain. Enter your domain without www, for example yourdomain.com.
  3. Copy the IP address shown in NeoWeb. NeoWeb will display the IP address required for the A record.
  4. Open your DNS provider. Go to your DNS settings panel.
  5. Add an A record. Use Type: A, Host/Name: @, Value: the IP address provided by NeoWeb, and TTL: Autoor the default TTL.
  6. Save changes. Confirm the record in your DNS provider.
  7. Go back to NeoWeb and click Check. Once the record is live, NeoWeb will detect it and show the domain as connected.

CNAME vs A Record: Which One Should You Choose?

If you are not sure which to use, keep it simple:

  • Choose a CNAME record if you are connecting a subdomain like www.
  • Choose an A record if you want to connect the root domain directly.

For most users, CNAME is the recommended option because it is easier to manage and usually causes fewer issues.

Important Notes About DNS Propagation

After updating DNS records, the change does not always happen instantly. DNS propagation can take:

  • A few minutes
  • Several hours
  • Up to 24 hours in some cases

This is normal. If your domain does not connect immediately, wait a bit and check again in NeoWeb.

SSL and Secure Connection

Once your domain is connected, NeoWeb will automatically secure it with SSL. That means your website will load over HTTPS, which matters for trust, browser security, and SEO.

When everything is ready, your domain status in NeoWeb should show that it is connected and SSL protected.

Common Issues and How to Fix Them

The Domain Is Not Connecting

Double-check that the DNS record was added correctly. Even a small typo in the host, target, or IP value can block the connection.

I Already Connected One Custom Domain

If your current plan supports only one custom domain, you may need to remove the existing one before adding another.

Cloudflare Is Enabled

If you use Cloudflare, set the DNS record to DNS only while connecting the domain. After the connection works, you can review your setup again.

The Domain Still Does Not Work After Adding Records

DNS propagation may still be in progress. Wait a little longer, then click Check again in NeoWeb.

Final Checklist

Before you finish, make sure:

  • Your domain is entered correctly in NeoWeb
  • Your DNS record matches the provided value exactly
  • You saved the record in your domain provider
  • You waited for propagation if needed
  • The status in NeoWeb shows connected
